How can I make my computer start faster?!

Each time you install a new program often they’ll take it upon themselves to attach to your startup process. The problem with this is:
a) it takes your computer a lot longer to start because that need to open each of these programs before you can get underway and
b) all those programs are now running in the background even though you’re not even using them so they are taking up valuable system resources!

Surely that’s not all...

Probably not. There’s a lot of reasons why a computer becomes slow, but there’s no reason why a reasonably new (3-4 yr old) pc shouldn’t start up as fast as the day your bought it. If, after you’ve followed the steps outlined below your system is still running too slow, there is something seriously wrong and you need to consult a computer hardware technician.

Identify 'Start Up' programs

Besides the recommended Registry Cleaners you can also download a little know program called StartUp Inspector.

When you install a program they often take it upon themselves to attach to your start-up, so every time you launch Windows your computer has to launch each of these programs as well so it will take much longer for your computer to start-up. Also, because these programs have been launched it means they’re running in the background even though you aren’t actually using them, taking up valuable system resources and greatly reducing the performance of your system.

To remove Start-Up programs:

  1. Launch StartUp Inspector for WindowsStartUp Inspector
  2. Simply un-check any programs you identify as not being needed all the time.
  3. For example: you would leave your antivirus/firewall software checked, that’s the kind of program you need to keep running in the background to remain effective. But you don’t need app’s such as Picassa or Yahoo Messenger running all the time so you can un-check them.
  4. Re-boot.
