What is a Registry
Put simply, a Registry is a place (a database) where information is kept regarding; what hardware is attached, temporary files, auto-saved files, cookies, user settings, configuration settings and which applications should be running at Start Up
A database used in MS Windows to store information necessary to configure the system to the users settings, applications and hardware peripherals.
The Registry is continually referenced during operation. It informs the operating system about infomration pertaining to the applications installed on your computer, property settings for folders and application icons, what hardware is attached to your system.
The Registry replaces most of the text-based .ini files that are used in MS-DOS configuration files.
